I'm not sure I understand why you wouldn't complete your list without doing that... you mean maybe you forget which games were in each positions exactly? Or that you wouldn't bother looking up the exact years and developers of each after the fact? Either way, it wouldn't be too hard to write that down somewhere else.

The "new entries are cool" approach is interesting, but even the new entries you have there don't look all that hard to guess... I mean, sure, I don't know which game fits where out of the 3 Nintendo games in your top 12, but I sure feel confident in guessing which games are the 3. This isn't the time for that though, of course.
