Yes - on my phone, I keep my finger on the panel till the "copy search etc." context menu comes up - if I back out of that menu at that point, the panel stays dropped down and I can then use it to login...

Yeah, that's what I have to do. I hold on it until there are options like that, then I back out the copy/paste/search/etc. screen, then log in that way.
