It's always the same with certain people, knee jerk reactions to everything

I remember when Xbox One was going to surge back ahead of PS4 in US and UK after it dropped Kinect. I also remember when it was going to surge back ahead after winning November and December 2014 NPD by a good margin, then lost the next year comfortably.

It is same old same old

The one difference of this holiday season compared to previous ones is that Microsoft will, at least, come away with a lot more hardware revenue. They have that going for them when before, they had to sacrifice hardware revenue to boost unit sales.

Other than that, I do agree with what you said regarding the knee jerk reactions. Microsoft is good at implementing short-term solutions, but never managed to find something long-term. Their best short-term solution was when they launched the XB1 S and released at least one new bundle every month. That boosted their sales from August to the end of 2016. However, after that, sales tanked and the YOY deficit is pretty significant in the US.
