Guerrilla Games even went on to further compare the two games. “Horizon: Zero Dawn may serve as an example of a Western hunting game,” said the developer.
As for the open world. Yes I stand by it. It became more seamless. Where you can lure the monster in a different area to fight of a different monster, set up traps. Go to a higher ground to gain vantage point. This trailer below is a perfect example of what I am talking about.

Apples to oranges describes your argument perfectly as I own HZD as wellas BB and have played the MH games sine the original they are nothing a like your quote doesn't even back what you're arguing as it's a general statement that highlights the difference in western and eastern tastes whats funny is that it backs what I'm saying as HZD is an open world adventure title similiar to the likes of Witcher and BOTW all of which are nothing like MH in how they play and are approached.
You cite BB as a vague example it has nothing comparable to what MH requires and the amount of grinding required it's akin to someone saying you attack and dodge in dark souls so it's like DMC when the applications are very different this is the flaw and you talk of PS4 users as if previous console users weren't diverse.
You've been able to set up traps and use vantage points and lure enemies for ages now in MH this is the difference between just playing one entry and following the series, monsters even crossed paths in previous games as well the only difference now is that it's more seamless. You also didn't understand the point about your cousin them cheating was because like many western players they didn't have the required patience for the grinding.
