I adored Miiverse and, given the absolute lack of any replacement on the Switch, will remain bitter that they've decided to close it.
I'm almost certain the only reason they're closing it is to completely cut themselves off from anything "Wii" or "Mii" related to start anew... For the most part I'd agree with that strategy, but this was the one feature that I rarely heard any complaints about and was easily my favorite online gaming community (given the others are toxic cesspools of teenage angst being vented through trolling that's not saying much, but still).
A simple rebranding of the service from "Miiverse" to just about anything without the "Mii" would have sufficed. Among my current criticisms of the Switch (which I really do like a great deal), the lack of anything remotely similar to the Miiverse is right near the top.
