I'm just going to read this as "fair warning.... our website really needs a boost to ad revenue and we feel that the only way that is going to happen is by giving Mario Odyssey a yellow or possibly red review, so far we're just waiting to hear back from finance to let us know just how clickbaity we need to make it"

I really wonder who will be the first site to try to justify giving this 70% it should cause quite the amount of "controversy" (click bait ad revenue).

Probably best not to justify the score in the slightest, just drop a 50% and at the same time review a few dogshit ios apps at 90-100 saying they're perfect outside of the controls/length/cost and lack of any graphics or music. Should get them clicks in.

...or maybe they just don't like the game as much? I mean yeah of course, giving it a "red" score (40 or below on Meta I think?) would be quite absurd, but giving it a "yellow" score isn't anything criminal especially given how for some reason 70 counts as yellow.

You know, in the end it's just really silly to get worked up over review scores. A review score is nothing more than a representation of how much the reviewer liked the game, it doesn't have any impact on anyone else's enjoyment really. And I'm not saying this as if I was immune to it, of course not - reviews for GotG Vol. 2 bother me to this day, and I'm not sure I'll ever not be annoyed by them, but I do at least know it's silly because it doesn't change anything really. Then again, DarthMetalliCube never even said they'd give it a low score, just possibly (possibly) lower than average, which as you say could be a 50, but it could be a 90 as well, or even 95.

Personally, I'm fine with it, well, because I'd like to see Zelda above Mario lol (though I wouldn't mind Odyssey keeping its 97).

Oh I'm not worked up in the slightest, just touched down in New Donk City and loving every bit of it, but I just was talking about the financial reasons why some reviews exist, they're in the business to make money and that happens by writing a review which gets hits, right now a green gets no money for a site basically.

I will always question when someone says a comment like "we always are more critical of X companies games" there is no reason behind that, if they have a problem with the developer just ignore their games, if the site as a whole is aware that they cannot review a game without bias then they have no right to appear on meta as a professional critic site. Doesn't matter if it's more for or against a game company, if the logo that fires up on screen first has any impact on the final score you give a product that just isn't a worth while review. Doesn't matter who makes something, if it's great , then it's great, taking off points because you don't like a company which makes it is just petty.
