97 is pretty much as high as you can go on metacritic these days. If a game were to launch with a 98 or 99 meta, and keep that score, the internet would implode, and it would be Game of the Decade.

I love it how Slant is pretty much notorious for their clickbait reviews now. They could potentially come in with a 6/10 score and drop Mario down to a 96. That all depends on how much weight metacritic's formula gives them.

Opencritic will always be the better aggregate, because they have a strict process to become a reviewer. You have to prove that you have an audience bigger than 50,000 people, and you have to publish a certain amount of reviews a year.

Seems like they're just as vulnerable

Better doesn't mean all games get higher scores though. It just means more accurrate. All those scores of 10/10 from outlets that rarely do game reviews bumped BotW to 97/100 on metacritic. Meanwhile on Opencritic the score wasn't influenced by that so it wound up a point lower.

Oh, and the three paragraphs in my post weren't meant to be related at all. They were three seperate thoughts, and shouldn't be read as a single thought.
