97 is pretty much as high as you can go on metacritic these days. If a game were to launch with a 98 or 99 meta, and keep that score, the internet would implode, and it would be Game of the Decade.

I love it how Slant is pretty much notorious for their clickbait reviews now. They could potentially come in with a 6/10 score and drop Mario down to a 96. That all depends on how much weight metacritic's formula gives them.

Opencritic will always be the better aggregate, because they have a strict process to become a reviewer. You have to prove that you have an audience bigger than 50,000 people, and you have to publish a certain amount of reviews a year.
