Funny I saw an article the other day from Sonic team about their thoughts on the huge positive reception to Mania. Their responce is basically, how can we take what Mania did good and make it 3D. When will they come to the concluion that maybe sonic just isn't meant for 3D.

The demo is timed.  The time given is so short, you can't get a feel for anything.  And from what I can see, cuts out just as the level design starts to get interesting, at least with the modern sonic stage.  

Also, given Generations and Colors was good, that would be a pretty foolish conclusion to reach.  They simply need to tighten their focus and honestly, drop classic Sonic as it's just wasting resources.

Drop classic sonic? Mania was the most well received sonic game since Sonic 3. Wasting resources? Mania was made by like a completely fresh new team. It was basically a fan made game for all intents and purposes. I'm sure they made their money back 10 fold already.
