If you think that I was actually trying to correctly use the term shonen to define these games instead of merely using it as a vehicle to bring to mind commonly criticized elements of the genre,  den you are mistaken.

Was he onboard with IV:A ?

Then I still think he'll do a decent job. I mean he basically said that he wanted a SMT more akin to Nocturne, and it shows in the trailer. Apocalypse was more or less an experiement.

Yes??? I'm like 90% sure.

I've written extensively about my criticisms with Apocalypse. I'd love to believe that it's just an experiment, but I don't think it is. Even if it was, it was recieved well by most people who played it. Just not ones like me who want the nuance back.

And I don't trust him saying that he wants to make this one more like Noctorne because my biggest problem with 4 is that it pandered too much to 1+2 without having any of the nuance that those games provided in their tone, narrative, and themes. (Not that I don't like 4) If he does the same with the vibe of Noctorne, in other words just try to emulate the feel without providing the context that justifies the violence and "darkess," I will not concider that a "decent job."

I can't say im not excited though. I'm just very cautious. I don't think he understands nocturne. I know a lot of people like the maniax edition, but there's a reason purists don't. Stuff like the true demon ending shifts the focus away from meaningful consequences to just "look you're evil, we're so dark, this is what you want from SMT, right?" No, what I want is philosophy delivered through the vehicle of respectful mythology and horror.
