Your mixing opinion with reality a bit; as in your fusing them together.
FFCC didn't sell well because the selling point wasn't a selling point. No other reason.

Next I want to drive the point that Square knew FFCC was seen as a multiplayer game, which it was and wanted to drift away from that.
