Now we (me and OP at least) are very curious whether you play as make or female in a game when given the choice.

If you had included 'both' in your poll, that's the one I would have checked.

But I checked male as I play male characters more than I do female ones, and it's based on their character as much as their stats.

When I do select a female character it also depends how comfortable I feel with them, and sometimes that has something to do with the way they're portrayed. I'll play Samus in Smash, for example, but not Zero Suit Samus. I'll play Mei in Overwatch but not D.VA. And definitely no way any of the Mushroom princesses.

Thank you for the ellobarate explanation. It's not my poll or my yhread since I am not the OP so I couldn't choose or add more options like both or I don't care. I am also in the I don't really care camp. I enjoy games with a female lead as much as with a male lead.

One of my favourite games this gen has a female protagonist  (horion zero dawn). I also like Uncharted lost legacy and I think ND really nails portraying strong and attractive women in videogames, without sexualizing them.

When I have to choose I usually check which gender has the best voice acting. When I play a fantasy game set in the medieval I usually choose my protagonist is gender based on my playstyle. Thieves and support mages are usually female and two handed warriors and glass canon offense mages are typically males.

I never play as whiny or overtly sexualised females though when I have a choice. A glorified bikini is not armor and I can not stand whiny people so I definitely don't play as Peach, Daisy or Rosalina although the latter is less whiny. Zelda is awesome though.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar
