I'm just relaying information on the matter that I find. In any case, I do believe that the incessant politicisation of this topic is disrespectful and counterproductive. Here's another phone call to another Gold Star widow, made in April 2017. |
I do not have a real problem with what Trump said to the widow, I have a problem with how he handled it. When he heard that the widow had an issue with what he said, instead of feeling any empthy, he chose to double down and state he did not make those statements. Next he said he had proof and chose to make it appear that the widow was lying. to me that was totally disrespectful to the widow. I do believe that Trump did not mean to cause her pain but I also believe he doesn't have the right frame of mind when he do these calls because he tried to make it about what he do instead of just doing it because he feels it the right thing for him to do.
The next thing that seems very disrespectful was Trump using Kelly son death to prove his point. From Kelly speach, you can tell he is still grieving about his son and he definitely did not want his death to made into a political event. By Trump telling reporters to ask Kelly if Obama called him threw Kelly into the whole mess. Now reporters are going to ask him if Obama called and he has to relive those memorys when he never should have been involved.
Last but not least, even thought I respect Kelly, he did lie during that speach either intentially or not it was an untruth concerning Frederica Wilson speach for the dedication ceremony of the new FBI building. Kelly should have totally left her out of the speach since now it looks like he was pulling a Trump move by telling a untruth to prove a point. This has tarnished Kelly in a lot of people minds who thought he was above this type of political move.
