"FPS" can also mean "first-person shooter" as well as "frames per second," so without adding the "60" to it the results become skewed.

Okay, how about this:

The term changed over the years and many people got lazy and just wrote "fps" instead of "frames per second" or "framerate".

Smooth gameplay was always important.
