Given that Switch's vertical resolution is bigger than those of two DS screens combined, such games could be converted in a similar manner as vertical shoot'em ups that were ported to home consoles; fat black bars on each side of the screen. A flexible emulator that allows side by side, stacked atop each other or swapping between the two screens with a button press would solve most problems and each game could provide the options that make sense for the given game. In some instances only one format might apply, but in many all three could work. Similarly, games that require touch input could be made playable in portable mode only. There's already VOEZ on the Switch eShop that is portable-only because of touch controls, although that specific example might change soon or has already changed via an update to the game that incorporates button controls. |
I'd be perfectly ok with the screens stacked on top of one another. But I could see many other people complaining about the size as well as the wasted space.
