I might share a similar opinion than you. I mean, the game looks excelent for those who like these type of Mario games. And I don't complain much about it because people were asking for this for years. But... tbh, I'm not the biggest fan of Mario platformer games with such a big scale. I prefer level-based, linear Mario platformer games usually. Hopefully this game proves me wrong, but I don't see it yet.

Does the health system also annoy you? I feel like I'm the only person who doesn't like how they dropped Mario's health being dependent on power-ups and instead went with a generic health bar.
