Well that was my point. Resolution IS the new bits. Polygons for a short time were marketed too. I'd say the only real difference is that Resolution is mostly a phenomena cared about on the internet. Like Playstation 4 had games at 1080p in the beginning of the gen that were 720p or 900p on Xbox One, but Sony didn't market that. Still, I imagine it swayed some people's opinion. But now we're seeing 4K marketed, just not in an ultra competitive way. More as a upgrade for a base model. |
Yeah I remember back in the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube days the "bits" of gen 4 and 5 became "x million polygons per second", before coming "HD/720p/1080p" in the 7th gen. It's always been some technical buzzword designed to make a system seem better than its competition.
