Media Create have been covering the Japanese market for over 20 years. While they started tracking back in 1994, you're not going to find much public data from before 2000.
Famitsu have been publishing weekly sales for over 30 years. The figures from 1986-1995 are simply raw numbers extrapolated with a fixed multiplier, so the accuracy is going to be questionable. Their coverage rate increased significantly after 1996, allowing them to give more precise estimates. Sales data from 1996 onwards can be found on online archives. Figures preceding 1996 can be found in issues of their weekly magazine.

Do you have a link to such an online archive? And more precisely, Ocarina of Time sales data?

This site has a complete list of Famitsu's weekly Top30 from 1996 all the way through to 2002. Ocarina of Time's launch week can be found in issue #522 on the 1998 page. The LTD total can be found in the Top100 chart on the 1999 page.
