I'm not gonna defend the game because I haven't played it in a long time, but like i said i'm pretty sure the game explains all of the stats very well except Pyromancy(and even then i'm just guessing because i heard about that before).

I swear there was a note in the dungeon you start in about jumping? Maybe not though. I don't really think Dark Souls requires you to see player notes ... the game explains a lot already but yeah, maybe a bit cryptic in some places. I wonder how newbies feel about the new games? Maybe they fixed that in the new ones, I can't remember. I was used to souls by then

Well, all I know is I went in blind in Dark Souls (never played Demon's souls) played for 20 hours and had to restart. Grabbed a guide to explain the basics and was back where I was before in less than half the time in much better shape. Ofcourse those 20 hours weren't wasted as I knew the level design, yet due to requiring more and more souls to level further I had effectively sabotaged my build so much I rather started over.

That's usually the problem with rpgs. You level up fast in the beginning without really knowing what effect stats will have in the rest of the game. Then when you know what you want it takes ages to gain more points. Dark souls 2 fixed that with the soul vessel.
