Nope, it's always been there

I honestly can't remember if there was a note that taught you to jump, but i'm almost 99% certain. I also can't remember if the jump was required. Now that I figured out how to use an Xbox One controller, i'll probably replay Dark Souls on PC sometime.

Oh that, that doesn't say anything useful. I know what dexterity is, not what it meant for this game. Nor how atunement slots work or needing to hold what thing in your hand to cast, nor how to get or upgrade those items. All I got for 20 hours, failed to meet requirements or some such when I tried to cast.

The jump is needed to get to certain items and also kinda essential in the lower depths. Which I couldn't find either since the door down looked just like any other painted on door and was in a place where the dragon appears, not a spot to start looking. DS seems to expect you to be connected to follow the hints from other players.

I'm not gonna defend the game because I haven't played it in a long time, but like i said i'm pretty sure the game explains all of the stats very well except Pyromancy(and even then i'm just guessing because i heard about that before).

I swear there was a note in the dungeon you start in about jumping? Maybe not though. I don't really think Dark Souls requires you to see player notes ... the game explains a lot already but yeah, maybe a bit cryptic in some places. I wonder how newbies feel about the new games? Maybe they fixed that in the new ones, I can't remember. I was used to souls by then
