The difficulty is extreme at first but it's a lot more about learning how to play the game. Kind of like a difficulty curve rather than just flat out difficulty? I definitely rage more at game series that aren't meant to be difficult than Dark Souls, lol. I think Breath of the Wild is harder than Dark Souls 
(jk ... but you could compare them)
It kind of sucks because the newer games like DS2 or DS3 are flat out unfair in some parts(mostly 2, which is unfair a lot of the time, but 3 has it's moments) whereas DS1 is almost consistently fair, bare a few parts. I think Bloodborne would be the best introduction if you only have this gen of consoles.
