You tend to focus on the most outrageous or lethal thing when there's a lot to be concerned of. The Miami shooter was suspected of being linked to a terrorist group and was investigated twice, iirc. That can put you on a no fly list in the US, but apparently not on a no assault rifle list. I know some will go through great lengths to get these weapons if they really want them. Preventing this from ever happeing has never been the argument. But I can go on about why USA have extremely lax gun control laws for many situations, and not just in mass shootings like this. That includes handguns.

I understand that people who have done nothing wrong shouldn't have their hobby be more difficult to practice.
But we live in a world where we have to cater to the dumwits who ruin things for the rest of us to a reasonable extent. And there's a lot USA can learn from other countries in terms of gun control.

I'm not necessarily opposed to some gun control, its that once its implemented we know it will get more strict over time. So that's why some are unwilling to bend.
