Hence, you don't need a gun to commit a mass killing.

I challenge anyone to kill 50 people in a crowd with a knife. Heck even with a pistol that would be difficult. 

There's no reason why someone needs an assault rifle for protection. 

Why would anyone use a knife in that sense?. Hop in a car and you can plow through a crowd that big and probably kill more than 50. Anyway. people typically use those guns to hunt with and they're semi-auto. Sometimes, people use 'em for home defense.
