Because one brand with an overwhelming marketshare means less options.
There are no games (and very limited amount of software in general) för Linux becuase Linux is to small. People don't want Linux because it there are no games and a definitive lack of professional software for it (AutoCAD is one example). It's a catch 22.
I myself privately have used Linux (but it was many years ago) and nowdays use a mac with macOS. My workcomputer is a Windows machine, because I have no choice since most of the software I need only comes for windows.
If the market was more evenly split (lets say 50 % Windows, 30 % Linux and 20 % macOS) there would probably be more software for the other systems. This in turn would mean that I could have my system of choice when working (a mac in my case).
Why I prefer Linux and macOS over windows (and I prefer macOS by a mile compared to Linux whitch I prefer over Windows)?
It's hard to explain, it's just how the OS operates and what an how it let's me do OS:y things, with this in mind I still prefer Linux over Windows even if you have a lot more fidgety things to do in it before it runs OK. But one big reason (which is kind of dumb but easy to quantify) is the Windows register.
