"work more hours" and "get a second job" are for all intents and purposes, the exact same thing. Many people can't go over 40 hours of work per week with their employer. So their only option to "work more hours" is to "get a second job".

Well this instance wasn't so much a misquote as it was an irresponsibly-out-of-context snippet of a larger quote. Not sure if there's a word for that... there probably is, I just don't know it.
