Well, it is certainly the case for some people.  I see it posted on here all the time - "I want X system, but my budget won't support it right now", and other statements like that.   I didn't read his statement as saying that money is the only reason a gamer would stick with one platform.  He just said that it isn't a limiting factor for him.
