I said the West, which includes Canada, which is an ally of the US, and since Iran is an extremist Islamic republic they'd gladly nuke Canada just for helping America.

Semantics. To most the world, the west is just the U.S. They as you said, clump them together.

I'd say the majority of the world considers the US to be in the new world/Americas

The West is Western Europe.
The East is Eastern Europe + Asia.

As a bit of elaboration:

For almost a century or so, the division is on the basis of USSR/Communist republics, and the rest of Europe. Switzerland is sometimes left out in modern times. Historically speaking, the division goes back to ancient times, to the Roman Empire. The Americas, Oceania, Hawaii, and other discoveries are separate; and the US, Australia, other similar countries, can be considered Western, but only because they have adopted Western European culture. But other countries in the Americas - despite being colonized by European nations, are generally not considered Western, because they were second and third world countries during the Soviet era.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
