As a Metroid fan, the one that immediately comes to mind is Yoshio Sakamoto saying that the storyline of the Metroid Prime games is largely unrelated to the 2D Metroid titles, which somehow wound up being interpreted by a bunch of people as him saying that the Prime games were non-canon.
