Awful. If you're playing Metroid you should be playing as Samus, the whole point of the game is to experience it through her eyes and improve her as a character alongside your own improvement as a player. That said, if the other playable character wasn't Sylux of all things it could be a bit more bearable - I mean seriously, who cares about that guy? Having only played the mainline games I don't even know who he is, that's his relevance to the story. |
Well you're kind of jumping to conclusions and being stubborn before the opportunity really presents itself. I believe it was Tanabe who said that the Metroid universe is vast and huge like Star Wars and it is time that we start expanding that and exploring it. The series does NOT revolve around just Samus as fans like to fantasize. She has been the central focus up until Federation Force which served as a purpose of exploring the Galactic Federation which is an important factor of the Metroid Universe. While I haven't personally played Federation Force yet, I will say the biggest problem with that game isn't the lack of Samus. It's the art style and presentation of the game that is so far out there that it feels dislocated from the franchise itself. Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite is facing a rather similar problem but at least that game still stays true to its base core roots.
Sylux is a character who has left his mark on the series. He's a fan favorite from Metroid Prime: Hunters (which is a mainline game and part of the Prime trilogy.) He also chases Samus in his ship in the 100% ending of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Apparently he is hinted in the cliffhanger of Federation Force and the Metroid Prime 4 reveal trailer seems to be a remix of Sylux's theme. There's way too many hints that he's going to appear in Prime 4 along with statements from the developers regarding their desire to explore his character more and make a game focusing on the relationship between him and Samus. The question remains will he function only as an antagonist for Samus or will he also be playable at parts? A lot of Metroid fans want him to appear in Prime 4 and many also want to see the return of other Hunters. Personally I'd like to see Noxus again as he could be a formidable ally for Samus and he's a great character.
Sylux remains very mysterious but he is speculated to be human. I'm hoping he's not an evil dick for the sakes of being a dick. It's very clear he has hatred for both Samus and the Federation who he was known to steal from and sabotage. It would be interesting if Samus did something to cost him his family, home, or something dear to him. Or perhaps the Federation did. There's even speculation that he could be Samus's brother but I kind of doubt that one. All we really know is that he seeks Vengeance and revenge for something. I really hope Nintendo makes it more justifiable and well written rather than a character foil for Samus to replace Dark Samus (The Metroid Prime) if they are serious of expanding the story in ways that they appear to claim.
