Then what makes games like Mario Odyssey, Zelda BotW, Splatoon 2, or even Xenoblade Chronicles 2, handheld experiences? Even on Vita, I don't think you could imagine those types of games being played on a solely-dedicated handheld. Sure there were sacrifices to be made, but ultimately, it's hard to imagine the type of online multiplayer experience or exploring a vast and dynamic open world being done on those type of scales on a dedicated handheld. Unless I've missed something on the Vita or tablets, I don't know what other game from those devices that could really run BotW, and that game has had some criticisms for running a little unstable at times even on the Switch, which is powerful than the Wii U, albeit not that drastic, admittedly.
The Switch can provide a home console experience. Its doesn't run 4K, provides super-realistic graphics, or 60 fps on every game, but the games run well on the TV and more than pass for home console games. Its a hybrid whether you like it or not. Upcoming games like Odyssey appear to be fantastic as a home console game and it'll be fun to take it on the go if you want.
