Momentum....
Started by Zelda and snowballed sequentially by a number of other games, and the stock issue. I'm not gonna lie, I think that has contributed to the momentum as well. But that's it IMHO, momentum. Learned that from Iwata at the very end of the Gamecube era. If you Google it you'll still find his quote. Really sums up the whole business of selling game machines.
