| RolStoppable said: There are many contributing factors: 1. The hardware itself is good. It's a console that can be played in three different modes with games that offer multiple control schemes. This allows the console to serve several different preferences for playstyles at once which consequently makes it a very attractive piece of hardware. 2. The console launched with a killer app. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is such a beast that it sells people on the console before they even know anything else about its software lineup. For the doubters, however, ... 3. ...the console received a second killer app two months after launch. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe served as a great complement to Zelda, because with just two games Nintendo already ticked the boxes for epic single-player game and multiplayer hit for offline and online modes. But it doesn't stop here, because... 4. ...Switch has a carefully planned released schedule for first party games. Anytime a game comes out, there is already another one that isn't far off. This creates consumer confidence and motivates people to invest in the console. The side effect of this first party schedule and consumer confidence is... 5. ...that third parties work hard to get games on the system fast. In January Switch was doomed because it missed AAA third party games and had only ~80 games in total in development. This was only eight months ago. Since then the number of games in development has risen to over 300 and over 80 have already been released. Switch's game library is growing at a faster rate than any other console's in history. The result of all these game announcements is... 6. ...a positive news cycle that Switch rides on. There isn't a week without announcements for new Switch games. The consumer confidence that was already there is only getting stronger. In only eight months Switch has gone from massive doubts that there will be enough games to play to the realisation that there won't be a lack of games, maybe even that there will be too much to play. Just like there is a death spiral for consoles, there's also a positive feedback loop. With reason 1 to 4 Nintendo laid excellent groundwork to achieve the latter. |
This is a good post but I need one thing from you. I need you to point out the single most important factor in your opinion. I understand this may be tough and I think all of your points are excellent but I really need to know which one is the biggest contributor in your opinion.
