I'm still amazed by the fact that Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is coming this year. Is this the same Nintendo that had trouble getting anything out in time for the Wii U?

The 35 days gap between Odyssey and Xenoblade 2 doesn't worry me as much as the fact that I still haven't completed X despite a playtime that's closing in on 200 hours. I've yet to touch Breath of the Wild and I also want to replay Skyrim once the Switch version arrives. Ugh...

XB2 is self-contained storywise so you don't need to have played the original or X to follow along.

But yes, it will be interesting to see how XB2 sells, considering the prior 2 games released on systems that were on their deathbeds while XB2 is arriving in the Switch's vigorous youth.

I know that it has its own story, yet I generally prefer playing franchises in chronological order

In Xenoblade's case, that would be a wise decision. X is not a beginner-friendly game in the slightest and can feel very overwhelming even for those who've played Xenoblade Chronicles.
