XB2 is self-contained storywise so you don't need to have played the original or X to follow along.

But yes, it will be interesting to see how XB2 sells, considering the prior 2 games released on systems that were on their deathbeds while XB2 is arriving in the Switch's vigorous youth.

I know that it has its own story, yet I generally prefer playing franchises in chronological order
