True but Doom makes use of Vulkan to make more efficient use of lower specs and the Switch is Vulkan compatible.

Last gen consoles had low-level API's that made efficient use of lower specs as well.

Is it possible they could be using that to push for better performance while preserving visual fidelity as best as possible?

Hard to say either way at the moment, the only *real* thing we can judge is the graphics from the short clips we saw.
There is definitely a reduction in resolution, but how much remains to be seen. (If it's sub-720P I won't be happy.)

And some of the texturing is lower quality as well, which probably shouldn't make to much of a difference in portable mode.

All in all, it hammers home the point that the Switch is a step up over last gen consoles, but a step down from current gen consoles, I am keen to see how games look in a couple years time to be honest, the console is still new.
