Wii games were also cheaper than ps3 and 360 games. DS and vita games have lower budgets, plus the carts for those were pretty small. DS was max 512MB, 3DS started with 1GB to 2GB carts, max 8GB. I don't think there even is an 8GB 3DS cart yet, there are only about 6 games that go over 2GB. https://www.reddit.com/r/3DS/wiki/size_of_games
Switch is in a different ball park, AAA budget games, already needing 32GB for some in the first year.
