The character with less armor and more cloth look a bit plain but in general, I think the costume design in this game is by far by favourite in the series yet. Besides, even the worst characters have been pretty good, unlike DW6 and DW7, where a ton of characters were just terrible. Also, the battle system doesn't sound as bad as I thought earlier. I'm still not convinced though, and I'm also worried about the open world. It doesn't sound like they've done anything interesting with it.
