It does matter and the ps4 is a few years old so makes sense to be cheaper.

If switch was a weak ass portable it would not justify it's price but it's powerful so most certainly does.

Fact is that doesnt relly matter, again, if you compare prices of Nintendo console compared to MS/Sony console from that time you will see that Nintendo consoles were always much cheaper in any case. PS2 launched at $299 while GC at $199, PS3 launch at $599 while Wii at $249, PS4 was launched at $400 while Wii U at $299 and Switch at $300. Again doesn't really matter, PS4 is less than 4 years on market, and its most popular and strongest console on market (3rd party games looks/works better than on other consoles), so having handheld at same price point at $300 would definitely be too much, and handheld with that price point would easily fail.

You would need to know that power is not what selling Nintendo systems, so $300 would be easily too much for just handheld despite power, only Switch handheld would easily failed with that price point without price cut, but Switch justify its $300 price because it's hybrid, its handheld but also home console in same time, and has two controller out of box for local multiplayer, so thats real value of Switch and one of main reasons why is selling great.

$300 is nothing for a shiney new electronics device these days.

This gen PS4 launched at $400 and Xbox $500.

Switch the cheapest launch at $300.

Your definition of priced like a handheld needs to account for inflation and the power of the system. The Switch is a powerful portable and it's priced as such.

My whole argument is that switch is selling so well in japan because it's firstly a portable. The fact its got a big screen mode is secondary. But because it's also a home console that actually means ths portable should be selling better then past handhelds because unlike them it's got the additional feature of a home console.

If 3DS had a home console mode you'd expect it's sales to be even higher.
