I'm not ready to say that they're handling the franchise badly. You may have been disappointed by ep7, but overall they've took the right decisions. We should wait for the Last Jedi before judging thoses decisions. But one thing is clear, Star Wars is in better hand now than 5 years ago.

On the contrary, it's not really the quality that matters. Episode 7 could have been great and they'd still be mishandling the series.

and then there's the Rogue One incident, where they had to edit and reshoot a lot of the movie for millions of dollars(they hired someone to do it for 5 million, but it's unclear how much more it costed).

Episode 7 being a disappointing, nay, bad movie, is just the cherry on top. But I'm willing to except that's just my opinion and that these movies will always make a profit. Just kind of sad to see a very inconsistent and badly managed franchise. Just thought it was well accepted by now in the community that Disney is not managing the films well, since it's well documented and there's even entire joke videos about it.

Reshoot and rediting is normal during production and even if it costed millions to do so, they still generated 1 billion at box office with Rogue One. The result of this movie proved that even a spin-off can generate massive revenue, that they're willing to spend more because they felt that their movie was not good enough like it was.

As for the community, we can't really judge it's reaction or opinion because like very community, the opinion vary from people to people. I mean, they can't please everyone and at some point, they have to take a stand. Alot of fan are mad that somes of the story arcs from the Expanded Universe were left out, but at the same time, the EU was created by many writers with different approach and visions, we can't expect to respect everything, the movies would have been a mess. Disney decided that the EU was not canon anymore and that's enough for a part of the comunity to whine even today. If they think Disney is not managin the brand in a good way, fine that's their right, but at the same time, I'm not seeing anyone asking George Lucas to take charge again...

Just to be clear, I'm not defending them, I'm just trying to minimize the importance of this situation or the overall subject. I'll judge them once all 3 films will be released, but for now I'll have to give them something, Star Wars is growing.
