I guess what I'm saying is they're going to destroy stuff while we destroy them. Do we want to wait before or after they attack us?

And what makes you certain that they will indeed commit suicide in this way, and that it will happen soon enough that we will not be able to develop countermeasures (at least for further-out targets)? 

If someone threatens you with a loaded gun, should you not take it seriously?
