Meh, the Indian community in the US is the wealthiest/most affulent group in the US, so I'd say in the US this stuff is rare, but for some people as with any group of people you're going to have some backwards idiots.
I'd say spousal abuse is probably worse for Eastern Europeans, in Russia it's legal to beat the shit out of your wife, you had a millionaire NHL player who had to go to prison and then got kicked out of the NHL for beating the shit out of his wife.
Women's rights are growing quickly in India though, there are many women that simply would not put up with this type of stuff.
