Why is there no such thing as luxury gaming?

The former being a very niche product that pretty much died with the original SNK, the latter, well, a commercial failure.

I think luxury gaming can work now, because the market is much, much bigger, and it would be built on the back of very successful ecosystems. 

Sony can make super high end models on the PS4, and they can sell them at ridiculous prices. Basically it would be like their  Z9D/A1E TV's or their ES Recievers. They just need to run games and apps a little bit better than the other models, with a few extra features, and the hardcore gamers and audio/video fanatics will have no problem grabbing them up. Everything is in place already. Sony has built a scalable ecosystem, and they just need to give the devs the tools to let the hardware do the work. Basically just let the hardware brute force its way to 4k/60fps. This can be done, and be just as successful as any other super high end electronics they make, that uses raw tech to pull better images and audio out of the content already on the market.

Now, if Samsung or Apple tried to enter the console market with $1,500 devices, then I see it turing out more like the Neo Geo and 3DO. No entry level device, no 1st party support, and new to the sector, is not a good business strategy.
