This is another article showing black men get longer jail times for the same types of crime, in some cases it's double, pretty fucking crazy IMO.

Inner city crime is a tough one in general. I think the unimaginable horror inflicted upon the African American community in the past has created such a negative cycle that has devastated said communities and lead to continued pattern of drug use and kids that don't see any future for themselves feeling like resorting to crime.

I don't know if there's an easy answer.

Hmm I agree about it not being an easy answer. I hate how alot people just attribute racism to every little thing. I'm not saying that you're doing that or anything. It's that article that bothered with that. Anyway, in my opinion, the longer sentencing and longer jail times are likely because of two things.

If you pay for a better lawyer, you'll likely walk of court with a smaller sentence. I'm gonna assume that most lower income blacks (the ones who are likely to commit crimes) just take the public defender versus paying for a better one. I'm faily certain this plays a key part in it.

The other big thing is how judges react to repeated situations/crime commited by the same kind of people. For example, I've gotten a couple of tickets and had to go to court over them. My last name starts with a N so I have to sit for a couple of hours while the judge goes through alot of people. I noticed that the judge wasn't really nice to people over DUIs (affects anyone) and late child support (affects men) mainly because of the frequency of the cases and what they were about. Their tolerance for it wears down.  I'm sure judges do this sort of thing with everything. Also they have access to raw stastics for their area about crime and they get to see people who ended up on the wrong side of the law. So they're fairly informed about this stuff. I think what happens in some areas is that they see black guys in front of him for the same things like drugs or gang related acts than he would a white person so he's harder on the ones he sees the most often for the same things. I think that goes with any crime for any people they see alot of. If they did a study on this, i'm sure that nonwhite judges handle their cases no differently than the white ones.
