Because at a (for most people) normal viewing distance (and screen size) you will not see the difference with 4k over 1080p.
The biggest difference that most people notice when watching 4K material on a 4K TV is the added colour depth, witch makes the picture look better but not because of increased resolution.
A computer monitor at 4k or 5k is not the same since you normally sit within 1 m from it.
