Beacuse people are familiar with power difrence, any reasonable person on Switch don't expect same experience that is at par with X1 and PS4.

It's definitely possible to get current version of Frostbite on Switch, but that would probably mean 720p-900p resolution and lower FPS, in this case you are getting 1080p/60fps.

Biggest advantage of Fifa 18 for Switch is full handheld mode, and playing local multiplayer even in handheld/tabletop mode.

I didn't mean visual fidelity when I said at par, perhaps I should have clarified. But I think people really want the same Frostbite game on their Switch with little compromise and we don't know how feasible that is, especially when it comes to good graphics with a smooth frame rate.

I think sports games are the only titles that achieve 1080p/60 fps on PS4 and X1. On Switch they would probably aim for 720p docked just to dedicate more resources to graphics, its also unlike they would achieve 60 fps.

Fifa on Switch seems to be a solid product on portable specs. There seems to be compromises made either way EA goes.

People want game thats put effor in it (in this case port thats done good) on their Switch, it doesn't really matters if its Frostbite of custom engine, I am pretty sure more people would choose 1080p/60fps with custom engine, than 720p/900p with lower FPS thats Frostbite. And it seem that EA done good job with Fifa for Switch in any case.

Nothing he said makes any sense.

First he said he doesn't want to make it a second rate version by putting Frostbite on Switch and then downscale everything. And then he starts comparing it to the PS3/X360 version. But it's still the same as a second rate version of the PS4 version. Maybe not in features but graphically. So the end result is still a scaled down version from the Frostbite version on PS4.

So what exactly did they gain here? I can only imagine that Frostbite just didn't run properly on the Switch and they had to switch to a custom engine.

They gained 720p/60fps in portable mode and 1080p/60fps in docked mode, something like that couldn't be achieved with Frostbite 3 engine on Switch.
