If you didn't understand the hype of Xenoblade for Wii you obviously don't remember the state of jrpgs at the time, especially on Nintendo consoles.

 

As for X, you may find some things that disappointed you, but as a whole package was nowhere near a disappointing game.

Sure the game got huge hype, right before/after it was released in Japan, but before that it was just one of many prospective JRPGS. People were more hyped for The Last Story back in 08/09. The first trailer, which I embedded, certainly didn't help to highlight Xenoblade's best qualities either.
