Don't get fooled by the name... the announced "mixed reality" headsets aren't a mix of augmented and virtual reality, they are only VR headsets without external positional tracking.

The difference is that the mixed reality have actual cameras within them while the current VR headsets do not.  The link I posted shows someone actually demoing one of the headsets with a wand device MS created.  It seems there is no need for an external camera for room scale if I read the preview correctly.
