an add on could be possible yeah, now that I think about it. Though I think the more pressing concern would be whether the Switch has teh power for any type of VR that is substantial enough. Even PSVR, which is great, is not exactly top tier even now.  Lets see how this plays out, but I think it will be more for whatever comes after Switch, or even if Switch follows a mobile esque refresh system (stronger SKUS over its lifetime).

If you think about Switch already has some things that could work for VR, like Joy Con controllers, and I am pretty sure Nintendo has some interesting VR/AR patents (like we already saw). Also Nintendo could later easily release Switch with 1080p screen that would be more subtle for VR, similar like phones are using.
