Given this includes WiiU ports, should we include the Wii's library as part of the WiiU's launch? I'm half joking, but it'd make for a fun discussion. I bet we could come up with a variety of compelling arguments for both yes and no.

- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is not a port

- Zelda came out at the same time as the Wii U version and has a higher resolution and better frame rate

- You can play Switch games on the go, but you can't play Wii games on the go with your Wii U. The small screen makes the games look much better as well.

So no, you shouldn't include the Wii's library as part of the Wii U's launch.

Your points here are all valid reasons an individual might say no, but their value is also all entirely dependent on said individual. It's similar to how on a fundamental level a remaster and a cross-gen release can be the same, yet many would opt against using the former word to describe the latter even in those instances (it's similarly probably why we see MK8D differently; i spend most of my gaming time on PC, and there it'd be considered a well done GOTY port rather than a remaster).

As i said i'm half joking (and i personally wouldn't include them), but it makes for a fun discussion because the majority of conclusions require a degree of subjective consensus. There's nothing about 'library at launch' that gives any inherent value to the technical state of a game, how it can be played, etc. Change the circumstances slightly and those same reasons can be used to back yes.
