THey will fail at trying to compete with steam but they can try. With that said, it will open up other opportunities. You cannot bring PC gamers over on consoles unless they favor consoles and the only reason PC gamers buy console is because they are gamers who don't want to miss out on exclusives. Xbox got me to come over to consoles cause they took the key PC games I was playing to console during the og Xbox era.Windows live failed then because they didn't realize PC gamers wouldn't pay for it. As I said back in 2008 console gamers will foot the bill for Xbox live on PC in the future and steam just gave them the blue print to succeed. The problem is that steam revitalized PC when Microsoft abandoned them. Now Microsoft is pulling a full 180 and can't even mask it because they have little to no exclusives. It's a sad ovcurance because just like the zune they will fail. I'll get my gears and halo fix though.

1st Problem is not everyone is a pc gamer. 99% of games are on all systems (ps4, xbox one and pc) and yet the games still sell just as well if not better most of the time on consoles. Consoles are a lot more convenient. Second, you're still giving money to Microsoft. Microsoft doesn't care how you get their games or services, as long as you do on xbox or pc. Microsoft doesn't make a lot of money selling harware, in fact no one does. They make money off of accessories, services, games, ect.

I understand that not everyone wants a PC but i am flexible enough to go in between without issues. Microsoft wants to dominate the PC and console market. If Sony didn't dominate the console with their own brand of computer based entertainment Microsoft probably would not have branched out. Steam in its current state is what Microsoft wanted for the windows platform. They are going to go after every dominant brand until they spread themselves and their resources thin.
